My career in storytelling began in journalism.
After years of being denied the funding needed to properly function, public defenders began refusing to take on clients assigned to them. This piece examines how this situation came to be.
Gay students at a rural high school requested the bullying policy to be amended to include protections for them. This request roiled this small, generally conservative community, and attracted attention across the state. I spent weeks interviewing students, parents, school board members and teachers. This piece garnered over 100 comments on the website alone. Ultimately the board turned it down.
